List of main ongoing projects

Agriculture
(Nukus, Ferghana, Namangan)
Facing the challenges of restructured collective farms in Uzbekistan and addressing the specific ecological problems around the Aral Sea, CAFE is partnering with Uzbek farmers to identify both specific problems and tangible solutions. CAFE initiates simple, low-cost projects, which help individual farmers become financially independent.
Business
(Ferghana, Kokhand, Namangan, Samarkand)
Local businessmen are still feeling the effects of the transition from a command economy to a market economy. CAFE's program focuses on training and one-to-one consultation to help small businessmen and businesswomen develop profitable enterprises.
Computer Centers
(Andijan, Ferghana, Karshi, Kokhand, Samarkand, Tashkent)
In this era of information technology, the need for access to and knowledge of computers is critical to personal and community development. In response, CAFE computer centers teach office and automation software programs and give internet access through local providers.
Health Care
(Andijan, Ferghana, Kokand)
CAFE works with health officials to identify the primary health-related problems faced by rural communities. To address these issues, CAFE takes population surveys, trains health care workers and produces and distributes public health information.
Language
(Andijan, Ferghana, Kokhand, Namangan, Samarkand, Tashkent)
To meet the great demand for foreign language training, CAFE offers courses in English and Spanish. CAFE also provides intensive Uzbek courses for expatriates working in Uzbekistan.
Libraries
(Andijan, Ferghana, Kokhand, Navoii, Samarkand, Tashkent)
In an era of globalized education, CAFE has established English-language libraries providing books, periodicals and videos as well as TOEFL, GRE and GMAT study materials. Two CAFE libraries also offer English TV news via satellite and English language discussion groups.
Media
(Nukus, Tashkent)
As part of our commitment to preserving indigenous cultures and language, CAFE has digitally reproduced decaying reel-to-reel and 78 rpm disc recordings of Karakalpak epics and folk songs in the Aral Sea region. CAFE also provides training in journalism and radio program production.
Orphan Care
(Tashkent)
(Tashkent) CAFE reaches out to some of society's most vulnerable members by providing clothing, medical care, therapy and basic education to orphans. In this program CAFE personnel work alongside local employees in state-run orphanages.
